Paralimni

Many people who work in the tourist resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras live in Paralimni. Following the invasion in 1974 the town has expanded and is now the administrative centre of the district. The word Paralimni means 'settlement by the lake'. A lot of the newer properties are built around the banks of the lake, which is often dry during the summer months. The town is an excellent base in eastern Cyprus with Protaras and Ayia Napa only 10 minutes away.

Deryneia

Due to recent development Deryneia is now linked with the main town of the area, Paralimni. Although close to the main town it still holds it's unique charm as a traditional Cypriot village with lots of local traditions. The strawberry festival, held every 2 years, brings visitor from the surrounding areas to sample the local delights and join in with the traditional dancing. The Cultural Centre is a must see for tourist and locals alike as it tells the story of the history of the area and overlooks the Ghost town of Famagusta in Northern Cyprus.
