Many people who work in the tourist resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras live in Paralimni. Following the invasion in 1974 the town has expanded and is now the administrative centre of the district. The town is an excellent base in eastern Cyprus with Protaras and Ayia Napa only 10 minutes away
